Privacy Policy
This explains what Mountain Call collects when you use it, why, and what you can do about it. We keep it short and specific to how Mountain Call actually works.

Who we are
Mountain Call is a ski and snowboard planning service for Japan, available at mountaincall.app. For any privacy question or request, email contact@mountaincall.app.
Mountain Call is intended for people aged 16 and older.
What we collect
Information you give us:
- Account: email address, password (stored only in hashed form by our login provider) and display name.
- Rider profile: whether you ski or snowboard, ability, terrain and snow preferences, drive tolerance, units and timezone.
- Trips: trip name, dates, region, whether you have a car, and where you are staying (see Location below).
- Days on the mountain: where you rode, how the day went, and any notes you add.
- Feedback and quick questions: anything you send through the feedback form, and your answers to optional research questions.
- Preferences: email and notification choices, quiet hours and push notification subscriptions for your devices.
Information created as you use Mountain Call:
- Mountain Calls: the recommendations produced for your trips and how they changed.
- Usage events: which screens you open and which main actions you take (see Analytics below).
- Email and notification records: which service emails and notifications were sent to you and whether delivery succeeded.
We do not collect payment details. Mountain Call does not use your device GPS or track your precise location.
Why we use it
- To run your account and keep it secure.
- To compare mountains for how you ride and produce a Mountain Call for your trip.
- To estimate travel from where you are staying.
- To send the emails and notifications you have chosen.
- To understand whether Mountain Call is useful and reliable, and to improve it.
- To answer your questions and feedback.
Location
Mountain Call only knows a location you type in yourself: the place you are staying for a trip, or a preset area you choose. When you search for where you are staying, the text you type is sent from your browser to Mapbox's location search, limited to the trip area in Japan. A hotel, town or ski area name is enough; you do not need to enter a full street address. We store the place you confirm (its name, map point and how precise it is) with your trip so we can estimate drive times. We do not store the search text itself. You can move the pin yourself instead of searching. The saved place is deleted when you delete the trip or your account. Mountain Call does not track your device location.
We do not read your browser or phone location, and we do not track where you go.
Analytics
Mountain Call records simple usage events in its own database, such as opening a screen or pressing a main button. These events are linked to your account, so they are not anonymous. We use them to see which parts of Mountain Call help riders and where things break. We do not use outside analytics, advertising or tracking services, and we do not sell or share this data.
Improving Mountain Call
Your feedback, day outcomes and usage help us check whether Mountain Calls were right and improve how mountains are compared. This happens inside Mountain Call. Your information is not sent to outside AI services and is not used to train outside AI models.
Emails and notifications
Service emails include sign-up confirmation, password reset and account messages. These are needed to run your account.
Trip emails such as a welcome, trip watch, Call-ready and trip recap emails are optional. You can turn them off in your account settings at any time.
Push notifications are only sent if you switch them on for a device. We store the technical subscription your browser gives us so we can deliver them. You can turn them off in your account or browser.
We do not send marketing emails from other companies.
Who helps us
We use a small number of providers to run Mountain Call:
- Lovable and its cloud platform: hosting, database, login and email delivery.
- Mapbox: displays maps and finds the place you are staying. Your browser connects to Mapbox directly, which shares the text you search for and standard technical information such as your IP address. Your name, email and account are not sent.
- Google Workspace: receives emails you send to our contact address.
Weather and resort information comes from public sources. We do not send your personal information to those sources.
Where information is processed
Our providers run cloud services that may store or process information outside New Zealand and outside your own country. We choose established providers and only share what each one needs.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is open so Mountain Call can keep working for you. When you delete your account, your profile, trips, Calls, days, feedback, preferences, notifications, usage events and email records are deleted with it. Copies can remain in routine platform backups and logs for a limited period until they are replaced.
Access, correction and deletion
You can view and change your profile, rider preferences, trips and notification choices yourself in your account.
You can delete your account from the account page. This is permanent. If you cannot do this, or you want a copy of your information or a correction you cannot make yourself, email contact@mountaincall.app.
If you are in New Zealand, you have rights under the Privacy Act 2020, and you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner if you are unhappy with our response. Riders elsewhere may have similar rights under local law.
Security
Access to your information is limited to your own account, with database rules that stop riders seeing each other's data. A small number of administrators can see limited account information to run the service. No system is perfectly secure; if something goes wrong that affects your information, we will act promptly and tell you where required.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page when Mountain Call changes how it handles information, and change the date at the top. For important changes we will tell you by email or in the app.
